Elkins Inn and Suites is a good base for visiting the local tourist venues.
Davis and Elkins College has a beautiful campus with the renovated historic mansions,  Graceland and Hallihurst. The campus is alive with talent during the Augusta Heritage Festival.  
Train rides on the Durbin Greenbrier Valley Railroad leave from the historic Elkins Depot located at the new town square.    These trains host scenic rides to the High Falls of the Cheat River, connection rides to Cass Scenic Railroad in Pocahontas County, theme rides, Polar Express, mystery trains, and dinner trains.
Attend performances at the Gandy Dancer Theatre where local talent is showcased.

Elkins has been designated as an “Arts Community”.

 

Elkins is host to many festivals, with the Ramp Festival in April, a Car show in July, Augusta Heritage Festival mid-summer and the celebration of the colored leaves of fall with the Mountain State Forest Festival.
Walk downtown and visit local shops including Artists at Work. Enjoy the many restaurants and breweries. Former Governor Kump’s House and many Victorian-style houses highlight Elkins architecture from the early 1900s.
Monongahela National Forest surrounds Elkins on the East- hike it, picnic in it, camp in it, and fish the popular Shavers Fork trout stream.
Visit Canaan Valley and the glacier deposited Dolly Sods  in Tucker County.
Ski options are nearby at Canaan Valley, Timberline and Snowshoe.
Civil War sites tell the history of the First Land Battle in nearby Philippi and the three battlefields that make up the First Land Campaign-Laurel Hill, Rich Mountain Battlefield and Corrick’s Ford.
Visit historic Beverly– a stop on the Staunton-Parkersburg turnpike, and the headquarters where General McClellan wired President Lincoln of his victories. See their museum, their historic homes and walk the town.
